UWP-Men's Team Crushes NMU 48-19
The UWP-Men's Rugby Team hosted University of Northen Michigan this past Saturday, September 16. Platteville started the match off with a bang, with Patrick Gardner (Flyhalf & Back Captain) scoring within 2 minutes of kickoff. The Mooseman eventually matched the score and both teams went into halftime with a 19-19 tie. Platteville proved to be the better team in the second half, scoring 29 unanswered points. People to score were Matt "Shwa" Berholts (Flanker), Jeff Smith (Wing), Corey "Seahorse" Siemandle (Inside Center), Charles "Chuck" Robinson (Prop), Ted "Tedder" Swenson (Outside Center), Kal Karokta (Wing) and Patrick "Lionking" Gardner (Flyhalf). It was a very exciting match and great way to kickoff Platteville's Season!!! |
UWP-Men's Rugby Team defeats UW-Eau Claire 65-14
The UWP-Men's Rugby Club hosted past rival UW-Eau Claire last
Saturday, September 23rd in Platteville. The match was far from even,
with Platteville posting 48 unanswered points in the first half. The
team made all six legal substitutions in the second half bringing in
all b-side players. The second half proved to be very promising for
Platteville's team as they scored 18 points to Eau Claire's 14
advancing to another Platteville victory. Player of the match went to
Back Captain Pat Gardner who scored a total sum of 30 points. Other
ruggers who added to the score board were Charles "Chuck" Robinson,
Josh "Zesty" Zastrow, Jeff "Smithers" Smith, Eric "RUUUSCH" Rusch, and
Foward Captain Jeff Moyer. The ruggers next match is to be held @ UW-
Parkside this Saturday, September 30th. We welcome all to come and

UWP-Men's Team beats UW-Parkside
Inspite traveling three and a half hours and not bringing three
crucial starters from the backline(Scrumhalf, Wing, and Fullback)due
to injury and illness; Platteville was able to bring home another
victory continuing their season to 3-0. With the support from a
highly skilled deep squad, Platteville was able to fill the vacant
positions with promising young athletes. On top of all challenges,
Platteville was also faced with what seemed to be a very one-sided
official. After calling back four tries and reverting blown whistles,
the sir then called for uncontested scrums due to Parksides "inablity
to compete with Platteville's fowards." This went in favor to
Parkside who had not won an entire offensive or defensive scrum in the
entire first half. Yet, with the obsticals in hand Platteville was
able to put up 39 points to Parkside's 13. The B-Team also continued
their winning streak of 8-0 on Saturday following the scheduled A-side
match. Platteville now looks on to rival UW-Madison which is
scheduled for October 7th, in Madison. We welcome all and hope to see

UWP-Men's Team 4 - 0 after beating UW-Madison!!!
The UWP-Men's Rugby team continues their success to 4-0 after
traveling to UW-Madison and beating the Badgers 35-30. The match was
well played by both teams but proved Platteville was the better by an
amazing second half come back. The score at half was 20-14 with
Madison holding the scoreboard. In the second half Platteville
outscored Madison 21-10. With Madison scoring 5 of their 10 points in
a very long advantage of 7 minutes after match regulation time. The
win by Platteville automatically grants them as the Pool B Champions
and advances them into Pool A for the Fall 2007 Season. Platteville
does face one last regular season match up against MSOE @ Platteville
before the play in the IN-STATE Playoffs on October 21-22 (TBA). We
welcome all freinds, family and Alumni to come to Platteville this
Saturday, October 14th to supprt the Pioneers as they compete in their
last match within Pool B. A special thanks goes out to the numerous
fans who traveled to Madison in support of our "Badger Hunting."

UWP-Men's Rugby Team Dominates MSOE 72-0!!! NOW 5-0!
The the UWP-Men's Rugby Team extends their record to 5-0 after
crushing MSOE 72-0. The match was very well played and great
sportsmanship was mannored by both teams. Platteville ruggers to aid
to the score were Pat Gardner, Jeff Smith, Josh Zastrow, Tedder
Swenson, Greg Urquhart, Corey Siemandle, Kal Korakta and Jeff Moyer.
More news to come for the In-state playoffs!!!

The UWP Rugby team ended their season with a loss to UW-Whitewater with a final record of 5-1. The game was well played by both teams but the final score proved Whitewater to be the better. Pat Gardner and Charles Robinson both scored tries for Platteville, with one conversion made by Gardner. Whitewater went on to score 22 points with the final score being 22-12. Whitewater was able to win by capitalizing off an early Red Card given to Corey Siemandel for "Dangerous Tackles" and the shortened numbers proved to be too much for the Pioneer defense. Whitewater proved to also have an outstanding defense by holding up three additional try attempts in the try zone, costing Platteville the match.
All in all the final record for Platteville proved again, that they continue to get better with each season. This season named
Platteville the Pool B Champions and placed them in Pool A for the Fall of 2007 season. On an additional note Platteville will be
graduating only one member of the team this Spring; Foward Captain Jeff Moyer. This looks promising for the Pioneers as they are able to continue to gel as a cohesive unit. Thanks to all who came to the matches and supported Platteville Rugby. Cheers!!!
